Foreigners who reside in Singapore for less than 12 months must possess a valid foreign license from the country of residence and International Driving Permit (IDP). If an IDP is not available, an official translation of foreign license in English is required. Information can be found here: Drivers from ASEAN member countries only need to possess a valid driving license issued by the relevant driving license to drive in Singapore without IDP. Identification (ID) Requirements: Singaporean residents/long term visa holders must provide valid ID document to supplement their drivers’ licence. Electronic documents are accepted but only if they can be verified through SINGPASS. Photos of ID are not accepted. Types of documents: NRIC or Long Term Visa/Pass (eg Work/Special/Employment pass) Foreign clients should carry all physical ID documents with them as electronic documents from other countries cannot be validated, and therefore not accepted, in Singapore. In these instances, a passport, driving licence and international driving permit (IDP) (where applicable) must be presented. IDP's are to be applied for, and received, prior to check-out. In those cases where this was not possible and you arrive in Singapore, you may obtain a translation from the relevant Embassy, High Commission, or any local registered translation companies in Singapore if your Embassy or High Commission does not provide the service. An International Driving Permit (IDP) serves only as a translation of a drivers existing license, and by itself is not acceptable for vehicle rental.
